At the heart of Tafara Wellness Initiative’s work is strengthening how mental wellness is understood, supported, and sustained in communities and organisations where it is needed most.
We are a nonprofit company that started in 2024 as a counseling-focused response to the needs of women and children. Through that work, we saw how much depends on continuity, trust, and consistency that comes from within the community.
Our name, Tafara, means joyful. We believe joy can exist even in the midst of pain, with the right tools and a community that supports it. That is what becomes possible when people feel supported and seen.
Our primary response is training. We equip community members, teachers, caregivers, youth leaders, faith-based leaders, and volunteers with practical skills to offer peer mental health support within the communities they already serve. Two things anchor how we work:
Tafara Wellness Initiative works with organisations and institutions across Africa that are committed to the wellbeing of the communities they serve. Our role is to strengthen their capacity to integrate peer-led mental health support into the work they are already doing.
Tafara Wellness Initiative trains community members to offer peer mental health support and walks alongside them as they carry that into the communities they already belong to. We partner with organisations across Africa to make that possible.
